This show was an unforgettable event that drew in more than 160 attendees on a rainy night. In collaboration with The Visionaires, a social and service organization in Gainesville founded for women in 1938, the event highlighted the beauty of community partnerships. Despite the weather, the performance was sold out—an impressive feat for the band, this time largely due thanks to the Visionaires' dedicated ticket-selling efforts. Their engagement and enthusiasm truly stood out! (See more below)

The atmosphere was electric, with the band and guest artists in high gear, bringing their A-game to the stage, a testament to their dedication and appreciation for their audience. David Richardson dazzled on the keyboard, as always. At the same time, CJ Watts filled in on drums for Jeff Durant, seamlessly complementing the rhythm. Williams Park, featuring the incredible vocal talents of Darryl and Pat Williams, delivered powerful performances alongside Amos Watts (Chuck) on bass, whose sound elevated the experience. And I, trumpeter Lanard Perry, did what I do - I played my trumpet!

The fusion of gospel and jazz created a unique musical experience, with powerful vocals and soulful melodies resonating throughout the venue. This blend of genres captivated the audience, who were clapping and swaying along, creating a communal spirit that highlighted the band's talent and dedication.

This memorable night showcased the rich interplay of genres and the magic that happens when passionate artists connect with an appreciative crowd. In a word - it was awesome! If you missed this one, don't worry. The band is already gearing up for its' next show in partnership with the Visionaires sometime in March 2025 at The Cotton Club Museum in Gainesville, FL. Stay tuned for more about it!

More imminent than that, though, is The GMJ Band's performance at the upcoming 44th Annual 5th Avenue Art Festival! It's FREE, so bring a lawn chair and hang out with us. I think it's the last performance of the day, which could add to some extended playing time. Looking forward to seeing you then!
